George Edmundson seals Rangers switch as defender signs four-year deal

Rangers have completed the signing of Oldham defender George Edmundson in a £650,000 deal.

The 21-year-old has penned a four-year contract to become Steven Gerrard's sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

Edmundson is a player the Ibrox boss has been chasing all summer and Rangers have finally landed their man after having several bids rebuffed by the Latics.

The imposing defender will provide competition for Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic in the heart of the defence.

Gerrard was on the lookout for new faces to bolster his backline after Gareth McAuley's exit and Joe Worrall returning to Nottingham Forest at the end of his loan deal.

It's been a busy summer for Rangers with a host of new arrivals. Edmundson joins Sheyi Ojo, Greg Stewart, Steven Davis, Jake Hastie and Jordan Jones at Ibrox.

Edmundson had a host of teams monitoring him, with the likes of Stoke, Hull and Preston all keeping close tabs on his development.

The 6ft 3in defender earned rave reviews for his aerial ability and his calmness under pressure with the ball at his feet.

Edmundson enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2018/19, as he made 45 appearances for the League Two side.
