George Edmundson's Rangers asking price 'revealed' as Barry Fry admits Peterborough interest

Peterborough chief Barry Fry has revealed Rangers want a fee of £1.5million for George Edmundson.

The centre back is likely to leave Ibrox this summer after spending the second half of last season on loan at Derby, and Peterborough were interested in him.

The centre back played just once last season in a 5-1 win over Motherwell, and scored an own goal in that game.

Ipswich are favourites to sign him, although Derby want to bring him back to Pride Park if they can sort out their transfer embargo that has been placed on them.

Wayne Rooney is desperate for new signings but it's unlikely they would pay £1.5m for him, meaning Ipswich is his likely destination.

Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph: “We were interested in (George) Edmundson, but they wanted £1.5 million for a player who hardly played for them and who spent last season on loan at Derby.

“That interest didn’t last long.”

Edmundson joined Rangers from Oldham in the summer of 2019 and had a decent first season but despite a good pre-season last year, struggled to get into the team.

He then breached Covid-19 rules and was handed a seven game ban before being sent out on loan to Derby in January.
