George Edmundson Rangers transfer exit moves closer as Ipswich deal offers bumper windfall

George Edmundson will finalise his £1 million move to Ipswich - with Rangers set for a further windfall if his new side win promotion.

The big defender travelled south for his medical and talks with the Portman Road club.

The Tractor Boys are confident that Edmundson will put pen to paper on a long-term contract following positive talks with the Premiership centre-back.

Ipswich Town boss Paul Cook has made the 23-year-old one of his top targets as he looks to win promotion back to the English Championship.

Edmundson was on-loan at Derby last season, where he impressed but the Rams weren’t in a position to sign him on a permanent basis.

The deal will see Rangers return a profit on the £800,000 they paid to sign him from Oldham Athletic back in 2019.

He was tipped for big things but was left out of the side and then got involved in a Covid-19 issue with Jordan Jones that saw him hit with a domestic suspension.

He was then sent on-loan to Derby before he returned for pre-season at Rangers.
