George Edmundson in Rangers second chance as Steven Gerrard rebuffs Peterborough offer for centre-back

Rangers defender George Edmundson is a top summer target for Peterborough United.

The newly-promoted English Championship side want to buy the imposing centre-back as they look to strengthen ahead of the new campaign.

Champions Rangers are aware of the Posh’s interest but have made it clear that Edmundson is not for sale.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Derby County but Steven Gerrard wants to bring him back into his first-team fold.

The Posh tried to sign Edmundson from Oldham back in 2019 but lost out to the Light Blues.

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has maintained his interest since then and would be willing to make a significant six figure offer if Rangers change their stance.

The Rams are also keen to re-sign the centre-back but don’t currently have the financial muscle due to a possible takeover.

Edmundson is keen to play regular first-team football and is yet to be convinced that he will get that chance at Ibrox.

The Light Blues went with Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun and Filip Helander for the majority of the season, with Jack Simpson coming in on January from Bournemouth also.

Edmundson hardly got any game time at Rangers last season before he breached Covid-19 rules and was sent to Derby.
