George Edmundson in firm huddle stance as Rangers loan star stands tall ahead of Derby starting slot

Derby County loanee George Edmundson has been pictured standing during his team's huddle ahead of their Championship defeat to Watford.

The big defender moved to join Wayne Rooney's strugglers on loan until the summer during the transfer window after a difficult season at Rangers.

He was fined for attending a gathering with teammate Jordan Jones before being hit with a whopping seven game ban from the SFA over his misdemeanor.

With first team football looking unlikely at Ibrox he moved south and made his debut as a substitute in a 2-1 win against Wycombe on Tuesday before being rewarded for a solid showing with his first start against the Hornets.

And he caused a stir ahead of the game when he stood tall during the team's pre-match huddle.

That echoes the stance of Ibrox die-hards Oli McBurnie and John Fleck who have been pictured doing the same for Sheffield United in the Premier League.

The huddle has been associated with Celtic since Tony Mowbray introduced it in the 1990s as a way of galvanising team spirit ahead of a match.

Edmundson has admitted he's enjoying life in the Midlands under legendary former Manchester United striker Rooney, in his first managerial job.

He said of the narrow 2-1 defeat: “It was a tough game.

"We knew that before we came here but I thought the way we played, especially the second half, we deserved more out of the game.

“We got in at half time and we knew we just had to believe in ourselves a bit more. I thought we did that in the second half and came close.

“We have had some good chances, I probably wouldn’t say we had any clear-cut ones but a few goalmouth scrambles made them at least defend in the first half.

“We did that and got in good areas, but then we wouldn’t put the best balls in and let them off the hook. In the second half we made them defend and put some good balls into the box. To be fair to them, Watford defended it well.

“All the lads have been sound with me and the management staff have been too.

"It has been really good and I am just taking it game-by-game.”
