George Edmundson closes in on Rangers move as Steven Gerrard's side have bid accepted

Rangers have had a bid accepted for Oldham defender George Edmundson.

And the centre back could be signed by the end of the week to allow him to fly to Portugal with Steven Gerrard's squad for pre-season.

Rangers have previously had two bids rejected for the 21-year-old but have gone back in with a £650k deal that has been agreed with the League Two club.

Gerrard has been chasing Edmundson since before the end of last season and looks set to finally get his man.

A centre back was a priority for Rangers with Joe Worrall's loan deal ending and Gareth McAuley's contract expiring.

Edmundson has been at Oldham since 2015 after coming through their youth set up and had loan spells at Ramsbottom, Alfreton Town and AFC Fylde.

He’s played more than 65 times for the club in all competitions.

Edmundson is expected to become the sixth summer signing and he could be joined by Joe Aribo as well with both players expected to be on the plane to Portugal.

The Charlton midfielder was much sought-after but the Light Blues are in pole position to conclude a deal for the 22-year-old.
