DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. _ The 2018 NASCAR Monster Energy Cup season starts Sunday with a twofer: Qualifying for the Daytona 500 and the Advance Auto Parts Clash (think Bud Shootout) as the sprint race moves from its traditional Saturday night slot to Sunday afternoon.
It's been a busy "Silly Season," as traditionalists like to say, with a strong emphasis on promoting up-and-coming drivers in favor of veterans. Goodbye Matt Kenseth, and thanks for the memories.
Dale Earnhardt Jr and Danica Patrick are also out of the picture, although Danica will hitch one last NASCAR ride in the 500.
