Amy Earnhardt wants to lead a long and happy life with her husband Dale Earnhardt Jr.
No matter what the internet wants.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. sparked a bit of a ruckus on social media Tuesday when he told reporters that Amy doesn't want him to compete in the 2018 preseason Clash next February at Daytona International Speedway. Junior won the pole at this year's Daytona 500, making him eligible for the event.
"Amy doesn't want me to run it," he said during appearance Tuesday at the NASCAR Hall of Fame to promote his paint scheme for the September race at Darlington.
That sparked the usual ying and yang on Twitter, with some folks badgering Amy because she's a control freak interfering with her husband's career.
Please. Stop. It.
Earnhardt is getting out of the game in large measure because of multiple concussions issues, including the latest jolt that took him out for half the season in 2016. Those circumstances factored into his decision to walk away from Cup racing on a regular basis after 2017.
So maybe Amy doesn't want to spend the golden years of her life caring for a husband who is broken down mentally from all the hits to the head.
Oh the nerve!
Amy took on the trolls at Twitter. Kind, compassionate and to the point.
"I've received many comments on Dale Jr. running the 2018 Clash, based on whether or not I give my blessing," Amy wrote on Twitter Tuesday. "Considering his struggles last fall with his injury, we are very blessed that he is now healthy, happy and able to enjoy his final season...and hopefully many years beyond racing. So my answer is simple. It's not worth the risk of his health."
Junior still wants to run the race, but he also seems respectful of his wife's wishes. Repeat after me: Happy Wife, Happy Life.
That said, this is a conversation between two people. Kindly keep the noise down, because it's distracting.
