George Best’s son Calum wants to open own business in Belfast

The son of famous Belfast footballer George Best said he feels a “strong calling” to the city as he announced he hopes to open a business in Northern Ireland.

TV personality Calum Best took to social media to share a photo of himself outside George Best Belfast City Airport on Friday after a visit to his father’s hometown.

The 40-year-old said that he felt a “real disconnect” from Belfast growing up as he was not close to his father’s family but has a newfound love for the city after travelling more often in his later life.

Taking to Instagram, Calum shared the snap and a post that read: “ Besties airport. This never gets old.

“Proud son moment. Thanks Belfast it’s been an absolute pleasure!

“When I was younger I felt a real disconnect from Belfast cause I didn’t live or grow up here, I almost felt unwelcome cause I didn’t know my dads side of the family, but the amazing thing is the older I’ve got the more I have visit, I feel a strong calling and good energy here, today I’ve made up my mind and set a goal I will be opening a new business here, fitness-related, watch this space.”

Fans took to the comments to share their support of the reality star’s wish to open a fitness business in Belfast and the “fitting tribute” to his father.

One remarked: “As an American with a father from Northern Ireland - I know exactly what you mean. There’s a special energy about being there even though we weren’t born there.”

“You can take the boy outta Belfast but you can never take Belfast outta the boy Calum. Well done,” another added.

One fan said: “Amazing Calum he would be so proud of you.”
