George Best, Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo - Who is Man Utd’s best ever No.7?

When prompted to think of the legends who have wrote the storied history of Manchester United Football Club, it is impossible to not think on one image: a bold white number seven on the back of a crimson red shirt.

From the days of George Best and the Red Devils’ 1968 European Cup triumph just a decade on from the Munich Air Disaster, to Cristiano Ronaldo retaking the jersey in 2021, No.7 is arguably the most powerful piece of iconography to grace Old Trafford.

Best or Ronaldo would be outright Gods at most other clubs, but United’s plethora of heroes gives them a run for their money in the battle of best to ever wear the number.

For starters, Bryan Robson’s performances in the 1980s and 1990s made him a childhood idol for many who watched his all-action displays from the terraces, often single-handedly dragging his side through darker periods on the pitch.

Next came another talismanic legend - Eric Cantona. The Frenchman helped take Sir Alex Ferguson’s back to the top before a stylish young blonde took the No.7.

David Beckham served as football’s biggest name though the early 2000s, with Ronaldo taking over the mantle to continue Ferguson and co’s success.

Although it has been "cursed" since, the shirt remains as iconic as ever.
