George Baldock a Celtic ‘priority’ as Ange Postecoglou steps up right back chase

Celtic have made George Baldock their transfer priority after completing the signing of Carl Starfelt, according to a report.

The Sheffield United defender was linked with a move last summer but nothing ever came of it, and now Ange Postecoglou is set to step up his bid to get a right back.

Baldock was relegated with Sheffield United last season and could be available for a fee of around £5million.

But the Celtic boss is also keeping tabs elsewhere with Derby right back Nathan Byrne flagged up as a potential option if a move for Baldock can't be done.

The 29-year-old has been at Derby since the summer of 2020 after a lengthy spell at Wigan where he excelled.

Celtic have previously made a move for Sacha Boey of Rennes but that move is believed to have fallen through and Postecoglou is focused on getting a right back in the door.

The Daily Record report that Baldock is the 'priority' but they will continue to look elsewhere if they can't get a deal finalised.

The signing of Carl Starfelt has allowed him to focus on the right back position as a priority although he still has a number of areas he wants to improve.

Starfelt arrived in London on Sunday and is currently undergoing quarantine but should be available for the opening day of the Premiership season against Hearts.

Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy is also still on the transfer wish list for Postecoglou.
