Geordies' interest in alcohol delivery rockets by more than 1,500% says survey

Lockdown and sunny weather seem to have inspired a surge in the number of people going online to search for thirst-quenching booze.

According to research, local internet searches for alcohol have shot up by a whopping 1,556% with those for cocktail deliveries increasing by more than 5,000% between February and April this year alone. The same period saw takeaway beers up 2,100% year on year.

That's the findings of statistics gathered by party tableware company Events Supplies which has ranked Newcastle as having the fourth highest number of booze-related searches among UK cities.

The company analysed Google searche trends based around alcohol delivery, including those for beer, cocktails, gin and wine, which it then related to main city locations.

And it says data shows that searches in Newcastle have risen 1,556% from the same dates last year.
