Geordie Tea Room opens in Tynemouth as popular Geordie Pie Shop finds a new way to earn a crust

It's provided havens for savoury-lovers and a lovers of a sneaky brew and the now Geordie Pie Shop is out to satisfy even more tastes as it expands its business.

The North Shields shop - with success built on that winning combination of on pies, mash, peas and gravy - went on to cater for even more appetites when it opened a speak-easy theme bar in Tynemouth 's Land of Green Ginger, with a Filthy Bones street food unit attached.

And now, just weeks on, it has relocated to the seaside village and opened a Geordie Tea Room inside the Green Ginger 's arcade to sell its Wor Pie Teas.

The developments have come thick and fast for the company run by husband and wife team Stephen and Victoria Bones.

The award-winning couple, who initially set up The Pie Shop in Benwell, Newcastle, saw their comfort food concept take off on its move to North Shields , where they were gained an alcohol licence and started offering the likes of a pie and a pint - with the venue becoming known as the Pie & Bottle Shop - and launched the idea of a Pie Tea.

This imaginative take on a high tea, included a mix of sweet and savoury treats such as gammon and pease pudding; mini pies and savouries and fruit pies and a scone, accompanied by a beer and a coffee.

Customers loved their pies - ranging from mince and steak to the likes of 'cheese sheepie' and chicken Balti - served with a pick of flavoured mash, including chilli, mustard or cheesy, plus a side such as mushy peas, beans or local favourite Pete’s Puddin, and one of three types of gravy.

And, with portion sizes ranging from small - for “if ya not that hungry or ya a bairn” - to “if ya clammin” (which means two pies), Stephen then said of the menu: “It’s stodgy, good proper food and it works really well.”

Explaining the new move, a post on The Pie Shop's Facebook page said: "In these ever-changing times. we have taken the plunge to adapt or die.

"We’ve chosen to ADAPT and by doing so we are relocating.

We will build upon the fantastic success of our Pie Teas and Pie Dinnas in our new Tynemouth venue."

The relocation is described as "a natural progression". And  the newly-opened Geordie Tea Room promises to offer "the same great service people have come to except from The Pie Shop".

Only now customers will be able to make more of an occasion of their visit to the arcade in Tynemouth's Front Street by calling in to their bar, The Blind Pig, too.

"Now people can make a day/night of it by carrying on their experience inside Green Ginger and have a beer with us," it said.

Following a "fantastic first weekend", they say the Geordie Tea Room will re-open on Thursday, until Sunday, from 11am until 7pm.

Filthy Bones operates from 7pm until 10pm and The , opens from noon until 11.30pm. It recently added some outdoor seating.
