Geordie Shore's Charlotte Crosby mum-shamed for weaning baby Alba before six months

Charlotte Crosby has been 'mum-shamed' for weaning her daughter before she's six months old.

The Geordie Shore star, 31, gave birth to Alba in October and has now decided to start the tot on solid food.

Talking to fans in an Instagram Q&A, Charlotte was asked: "How come your weaning Alba before 6 months?"

The new mum replied with a adorable picture of her daughter covered in food from an Ella's Kitchen pouch.

Charlotte wrote: "So a number of reasons, but the main one being that I was just soooooo excited to give it a try, so when I saw that lots of the Ella's pouches have suitable from 4 months I dived straight in.

"We started Alba around 4.5 months. There's lots of foods that should totally be avoided before the 6 month age so we just made sure we stayed clear from them ones. And off we went into the world of wonderful messiness."

Some of Charlotte's fans told the reality star she shouldn't wean Alba yet, with one asking: "Why are people like Charlotte so eager to put their children at risk. It's really not hard to do research to see the risks of early weaning."

While another added: "Anything before 4 months should only be done on advice from health care professionals. Its recommended 6 months for a reason, but people like Charlotte always think they know better than professionals."

However, one fan supported the reality star, saying: "She probably did ask a professional. She's a brilliant parent."

NHS guidance recommends that babies should be gradually introduced to solid foods from around six months old.

Charlotte said: "They just need time to adjust to the fact they now entering a whole new side of food and then bang it just clicks. We do a combination of baby lead weaning and spoon fed.

"After a month and a bit I started giving her [Alba] things to hold and eat herself like banana, avocado, toast, carrots, yorky pud.

"Because she's done over a month now of getting used to different tastes and thicker consistencies and swallowing them I feel much more confident when she's having more solidly baby led things."

The reality star also revealed her daughter now eats "absolutely anything" after a stage of weaning where Charlotte thought the baby 'hated everything'.

Charlotte welcomed her daughter with partner Jake Ankers on October 23 2022.

Alba's second name, Jean, is a tribute to Charlotte's nan, who sadly died last year.
