Geordie Shore's Aaron Chalmers drank '15 beers a day' to cope with anxiety

Aaron Chalmers has admitted he drank up to '15 beers a night' as he struggled with anxiety last year.

Aaron, 33, shot to fame on Geordie Shore in 2014, joining the likes of Gaz Beadle, Charlotte Crosby and Vicky Pattison in the famous party house.

He stayed on the show for a number of years and has since been on screen in its successful spin-off show Geordie OGs which will soon return for a new series.

The reality star turned MMA fighter has opened up about his battle with anxiety after the country went into lockdown for the first time last year.

Revealing he's now been booze free for eight months, he told The Sun: "In one of the worst states I've ever been in with the Covid, I had just lost an MMA fight, everything was going downhill because of alcohol.

Me and my missus had just split up, lost a fight and I was just in a bad way. The anxiety was just the worst it had ever been.

"I was drinking f***ing 12 to 15 bottles a night...big bottles as well."

Aaron revealed he'd go to the supermarket every day to get more bottles of beer and before long his heavy drinking and poor diet, which saw him eat fast food meals every day, led to him being 20kg over his usual fight weight and left him feeling incredibly unhealthy and out of shape.

He made the decision last August to have "a month off the drink," but he's now planning to keep going for a full year.

In February he took to Instagram to post: "Today is exactly 6 months without a drop of alcohol and I honestly can say it’s been 1 of the easiest things iv (sic) done!! I haven’t missed it and I’m literally fitter and healthier then Iv ever been!!

There was reason for Aaron to celebrate at the weekend when girlfriend Talia Oatway gave birth to the couple's second son, Maddox.

The new baby arrived five weeks early after Aaron and Talia had been on a night out and, sharing a picture of him on Instagram, Aaron wrote: "Welcome to the world baby Maddox. He’s 5 and half weeks early but he’s a healthy 5.5lbs and Mam and baby doing amazing"
