Geordie gin maker bids to sell products to online customers from North Tyneside premises

A North East distiller has revealed plans for a distribution centre in Whitley Bay so it can sell its products to fans online.

Geordie Gin Distribution Limited has asked North Tyneside Council for permission to sell alcohol around the clock.

If the plans are given the go-ahead the firm would be fulfilling orders from a premises on Trewitt Road.

In an application form to the council, Geordie Gin stated that it already holds a licence to re-distil gin and for an alcohol warehouse. However, it needs a licence to allow online sales to the general public.

The applicant emphasised that sales will only be made online, and as such, interaction will be "extremely limited".

It said: "As the business will only be selling online to retail customers via delivery there will be extremely limited interaction with the general public at the location of the production and storage of alcohol products.

"As such, this significantly reduces the potential for all public disorder as no beverages will be consumed on site or near the premises. In addition, this helps guarantee public safety and public nuisance.

"Additionally, by requiring signature and proof of ID on delivery we make sure we are adhering to all requirements of the licence."

North Tyneside Council's licensing department is yet to decide on the proposals.
