Geordie comic Robin Armstrong left with a broken back after exploding chair prank goes wrong

This is the moment a prank horribly backfires - fracturing Facebook funnyman Robin Armstrong's back.

The social media star was hurled 10ft in the air by an exploding chair - only to fall short of the paddling pool he was supposed to land in.

Speaking from his hospital bed the 30-year-old revealed he could have been left "paralysed" while he faces spending the next three weeks recovering in bed.

"I've had scans and they show four fractures in my spine, and I'm lucky my spine didn't go in half," said Robin.

"The pain was excruciating, I was literally crying at one point.

"It is rubbish. I've been in lockdown for 15 weeks, and then I break my back which means I'm bedbound for another three."

The stunt occurred in a friend's garden on Tuesday, and was set up by Robin's girlfriend, Wendy.

The pair had been engaging in 'prank wars' as part of a series of skits for Robin's new page, The Baldy Geordie.

"We've been pranking each other for a few weeks, as that is what is really popular online," said Robin.

"I didn't want it to be fake, so we really went for it and it turned out the grand finale was this airbag one. I had no idea what I was sitting on was the prank.

"(The people in the garden with us) had been throwing bits of cheese at my hot head, and I thought that was it, so I was sitting there waiting for these bits of cheese and then 'bang'.

"I'm about 17-and-a-half stone, so to blast me 10ft in the air, you can just imagine the pressure behind it."

The painful landing - and the aftermath - is also caught on film, with Robin grimacing on the ground.

An ambulance had to be called to take him to Gateshead's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where scans confirmed the fracture.

"The ambulance driver knew who I was, but I was apologetic for wasting their time," said Robin.

"But they all watched the video and thought it was hilarious."

As a thank you, he arranged for Sambuca to deliver around 30 pizzas to NHS. staff and as he recovers, he has urged others not to follow suit.

On Facebook, he posted a picture of himself in his hospital bed.

And while he claimed he felt "absolutely cushty", he added: "Little bit of advice...don’t sit on an air bag and let it explode."
