'Genuine guy' killed in Lanarkshire road horror was on morning walk with girlfriend and her mum

Tributes have been paid to a man who died after being struck by a van while out walking with his girlfriend and her mother.

Craig Wilson, 29, passed away at the scene of the accident on the outskirts of Strathaven on Saturday morning.

His partner Hannah Duddy, 24, was taken to Wishaw General Hospital and has since been discharged. Her mum, 52, was also struck by the van and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where medics describe her condition as serious but stable.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident.

Police Scotland said the 47-year-old male van driver had been arrested in connection with the incident, but released pending further investigation.

A family member posted online: "On behalf of the family of Craig Wilson, it is with a heavy heart that I have to announce Craig was involved in a road traffic accident.

"Sadly, Craig passed away at the scene where he, his fiance Hannah and Hannah's mother were also involved.

"Hannah and her mum are expected to recover.

"For everyone who knew Craig, they would have known how full of life he was and how much he lived life to the fullest.

"He was a genuine one in a million soul and he will be missed more than he would have ever imagined.

"All our hearts are with his family at this time. Thank you."

One friend posted: "This is heartbreaking Hannah. So sorry for your loss."

Another added: "Heartbreaking hearing this tragic news Hannah, so sorry for your loss and sending so much love."

A third said: "Sorry for your loss, he was an amazing and genuine guy he will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him. Thinking of all the family."

Police Scotland said: "Although a number of people assisted at the time, we would still ask for witnesses to the crash, or motorists with dash-cam footage capturing the collision, to get in touch with police.

"Please call officers on 101 quoting reference number 1300 of Saturday, April 1."
