'Gentle' Princess Charlotte praised as Royals release stunning butterfly photos

An adorable new photo of 'gentle' Princess Charlotte holding a butterfly has been released by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The new picture of six-year-old Charlotte shows her taking part in the Big Butterfly Count and is one of a series of photos taken by her mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, in Norfolk where the family lives.

Last month, the family released another image taken by the Duchess of Prince George perched on the bonnet of a Land Rover Defender to mark his eighth birthday.

The Cambridges are taking part in the annual butterfly count, which is run by the charity Butterfly Conservation and is due to come to an end on Sunday.

The Kensington Royal Twitter account posted three new photos on social media - one of Princess Charlotte looking down as she delicately holds a butterfly in her cupped hands, and two stunning images of Peacock and Red Admiral butterflies perched on purple buddleia bushes.

The post had already received 5,500 likes on Twitter an hour after being posted.

Lots of people on social media commented on Princess Charlotte's gentle touch with the creatures, while others praised the Duchess for her photography skills.

"What beautiful photos and for such a great cause. Princess Charlotte is the sweetest!" one Twitter user said.

"The care she is taking with the butterfly in her hands shows so much empathy," another commented.

A third said: "Stunning pics, and Princess Charlotte is so adorable", while another remarked: "I love these photographs. Duchess Kate you are very talented indeed."

Another noted that Princess Charlotte was "getting so big", while another said she had "gentle hands", adding "Let's hope butterflies are on the rise."

Kate may have a passion for photography, but she has revealed her children sometimes wish their mother would put her camera down.

Speaking to a finalist of her Hold Still photography contest, the duchess said about George, Charlotte and Louis: “Everyone’s like, ‘Mummy, please stop taking photographs’.”
