Genshin Impact has been building up Snezhnaya ever since the game’s launch, and in Version 7.0, we’re finally travelling to Teyvat’s seventh nation. This means new locations, new characters, and gameplay features.

Closer look at Snezhnaya
The Version 7.0 livestream gave us a closer look at Snezhnaya and its story, which involves the storm crisis alongside the Ruler of Death, Ronova. We also got a better look at Tsaritsa, who appears imposing and cold as you’d expect. However, what exactly is happening in Snezhnaya and what the Tsaritsa is truly like is up to you to find out.
Snezhnaya is a frozen wasteland with winds that can blow you away and cold that can freeze you to death. While it has a cold system, it’s not the same as in Dragonspine. Instead, you get a gadget to keep you warm and help you explore the new areas.
Alternatively, you can take one of the trains connecting multiple points of interest. These trains can serve as your base, as they’re equipped with a Firearm Workbench, Crafting Table, and a communicator for submitting Daily Commissions.
coming back after a break:If you were away for a long time and are now returning to experience Snezhnaya, you can jump straight into the new Archon Quests as long as you’ve completed the Song of the Dragon and Freedom quest in Mondstadt.
Cryo Traveler and Stellar Swirl
Version 7.0 introduces a new Stellar Elemental reaction, Stellar Swirl. When Anemo comes in contact with Cryo, it creates a Stellar Vortex and deals Anemo damage. The Vortex deals Cryo damage after exploding and can be upgraded while on the field with subsequent Stellar Swirls.
One way to trigger Stellar Swirl (and all Stellar Glimmer reactions) is by having the Cryo Traveler in your party. The Cryo Traveler also comes with a unique sword, Exaiphanes Blade, that you can upgrade by interacting with more Statues of the Seven across Snezhnaya.
Shooter gameplay
As previously teased, Version 7.0 of Genshin Impact introduces third-person shooter gameplay, allowing you to wield a gun like the Fatui have for all these years. The shooter gameplay takes place in the Shadow Realm areas of Snezhnaya.
It combines gunplay with environmental interactions, such as breaking ice using a grenade launcher to drop enemies. It’s not just running and gunning – you can hide behind cover (almost like in The Division), vault over obstacles, and slide to reposition.
Shooter gameplay incorporates Genshin‘s elemental reactions, depending on the weapon configuration. In Version 7.0, there are three weapon variants: a Cryo rifle for precision damage, an Electro rifle with an auto-lock feature, and a triple-element grenade launcher (Pyro, Hydro, and Cryo).
If you don’t have great aim or are new to shooters, Genshin has you covered with multiple aim-assist options. On the other hand, if you want a challenge, there are high-difficulty stages to test your mechanical skills.
Miliastra Wonderland:Miliastra Wonderland will also receive support for the shooter gameplay in the future.
Characters and banners
Genshin showcased two new playable characters: Odette and Alyosha. Odette is a five-star Cryo sword user who’s a Prima Ballerina. With her on the team, you can trigger Stellar reactions and increase their damage. One of Odette’s unique features is a dancing idle animation you can extend with a press of a button.
Alyosha is a new four-star Electro polearm character who provides a Stellar-Conduct damage bonus, traps enemies, and can restore on-field characters’ HP using the Elemental Burst. When 7.0 launches, you can get him during the “Everwinter Without Mercy” Archon Quest.
