Genshin Impact Sumeru: How to activate the underwater waypoint

With Sumeru, Genshin Impact’s update 3.0 has introduced an extensive new region, which will probably grow even bigger in just a few weeks with patch 3.1. Other additions include fresh characters such as Tighnari and Collei, who are the first additions to the roster wielding the new Dendro power.

However, before you venture into the dry deserts of the west, there are many secrets to uncover in the jungle area of Sumeru. Among them is a waypoint submerged in water. How to unlock it and discover a hidden sphere to boot is explained in this guide.

Lower the water level in Genshin Impact

Head to the Statue of the Seven in the west of Sumeru City and look northwest. There, a ruin towers over a river valley that cuts through the landscape. Glide in that direction, using the Dendro hooks to increase your speed. Two optional entrances lead inside. Jump off the side of the ruins and glide under the first level into the open side.

If you have chosen the west side, now turn to the right, where you will see some ruin machines and a locked mechanism, above which hovers a Seelie. Destroy the machines and operate the mechanism to lower the water level. However, this is not enough to get to the waypoint.

Deeper inside the ruins you will find a second mechanism. Either follow the Seelie into the cave via the waterway or take the passage to the left of the first mechanism to get to the right place.

The second mechanism is also locked. To unlock it, you need to activate four Dendro stelae scattered around the cave. First, climb up the massive branch, where you bag a Dendroculus, which you can later sacrifice at a Statue of the Seven. From there it’s an easy walk up the decaying walls of the ruin, behind which you’ll find the first stele. Activate it with a Dendro attack.

The second stele is hidden behind the green Dendro barrier, which you can bypass using the grappling hooks on the left side. After that, fight the treasure hoarders to get the chest with a blueprint and some Primos.

The two remaining stelae are buried under the rocks marked with Dendro symbols. To blow them up, you need the power of Dendrograna

You’ll reveal a source for these by shooting Dendro power at the rectangular boulder on the lower level, where the resting place of the Seelie you discovered in the first mechanism lies.

Defeat the enemies that pop up, then shoot the Dendrograna at the marked rocks with an archer. Activate the stelae with Dendro power. This will unlock the second mechanism. This lowers the water level enough so that you can now reach the waypoint back in the river valley.

However, this is not the only secret of this cave. Return to the second mechanism and jump down to the bottom level, where the chest appears after unlocking the mechanism. Defeat the machines and open the round stone gate. Behind it, more guards are waiting for you to defeat. You will also find another Dendroculus here.

Penetrate deeper into the cave until you come across the entrance to a sphere. Grab the Dendrograna from their source and let arrows fly at the floating Dendro ring as well as the Dendro ring that appears as a result.

This will open the way into the sphere, which holds more rewards for you in store.
