Genshin Impact and Star Rail maker wants to know what anime you like

A new Genshin Impact survey is live in the free-to-play game, but in the Genshin Impact 4.0 launch survey, HoYoverse wants to know your favorite anime. Usually, these surveys ask you things such as what kind of game you play and how familiar you are with certain, similar RPGs as a way to gauge what influences might be most popular in later updates.

Some of that is in this survey, too, but HoYoverse also asks whether you’ve played some of the most popular games in the last few years, including Elden Ring, and then what anime you enjoy. The selection is quite broad as well, with a mix of current picks and some classics. There’s Spy x Family and Bocchi the Rock alongside Sword Art Online, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Chainsaw Man.

What HoYoverse has in store is anyone’s guess, but I do wonder if the team is gearing up for a big narrative shift to help keep the game fresh. We’re a year out from when HoYoverse introduced Dendro, the final combat element. With at least two more years before the game reaches its conclusion in Snezhnaya – assuming it does end there – and multiple gaps on the map to fill in, it’s possible HoYo is turning to narrative and character developments to keep players interested in the absence of big battle changes.

Of course, this is just speculation. HoYoverse might just want a better idea of who their audience is, or there may be some kind of crossover in the works. Genshin Impact has only had one crossover since it launched in 2022, but anime collaborations are a popular choice in live-service games, including Overwatch 2 and Fortnite.

Whatever the reason ends up being, for now, Fontaine is here with three new characters and a deep new region to explore. And if you fill out the survey, you get 50 Primogems this time instead of the usual Mora reward.
