Geno Smith has gotten the green light to join Big Blue.
The former Jets quarterback underwent a physical examination on Monday and afterward, according to sources, signed a one-year, $2-million deal to vie for the backup job behind Eli Manning in 2017. Smith is coming off a torn ACL suffered in October. He had agreed to terms with the Giants last week, pending Monday's evaluation.
Smith is now the third former Jet to sign with the Giants in the past 12 months. He follows former teammates Damon Harrison, a defensive tackle who signed last year, as well as wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who became a Giant earlier this month.
In his four years with the Jets, Smith threw 28 touchdown passes with 36 interceptions over 33 games.
Smith, 26, is expected to compete with Josh Johnson for the backup quarterback job on the Giants. The Giants signed Johnson, 30, to a two-year deal last week.
