'Genius' - Roy Keane makes spot on claim about Nottingham Forest legend Brian Clough

He is Nottingham Forest’s greatest ever manager, with his achievements at the City Ground going down in history.

That may have been several decades ago now, but Roy Keane is convinced Brian Clough would have had no trouble making an impact in today’s game.

It was Clough who brought Keane to the City Ground from Irish side Cobh Ramblers in 1990, with the midfielder going on to make more than 100 league appearances for the club.

And the Irishman says any perception the legendary Reds boss wouldn’t have been able to work his magic in the present day is wrong.

“Brian Clough? How would he fare? He would have been fine,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“We all know the game has changed and there’s a lot more power now with the players and a lot has changed.

“But I think the man was a genius.

“I thought his messages were brilliant, his knowledge of the game and his track record. Brilliant.

“I think this idea of how he would survive the modern game - I think he would have been fine because the guy was a genius.”
