Genesis 'getting back together' as Radio 2 teases announcement

BBC Radio 2 has revealed that a “massive band” is getting back together, prompting fans to speculate online.

The station shared a cryptic post on Twitter, which said: “A massive band is reuniting. Don’t miss the exclusive reveal!

“Our lips are SEALED until tomorrow morning (you’re going to love this one!).”

Fans were quick to share their best guesses online.

And Genesis appeared to confirm the news with an announcement on the band's Instagram page.

Many suggested that progressive rockers Genesis might be the band in question.

The Sun says the band are set to tour the UK in November and December with tickets on sale this month.

Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford, all 69, last went on the road in 2007 as part of their Turn It On Again world tour.

Best known for tracks including I Can’t Dance and That’s All, Genesis formed at Charterhouse boarding school in Godalming, Surrey, in 1967.

In January, the trio were spotted together at a New York Knicks game at New York’s Madison Square Garden, sparking rumours of a reunion.

Some fans speculated that The Go-Go’s, who had a top 10 hit with the song Our Lips Are Sealed, were making a comeback.

Other popular guesses included Jedward, Oasis and Abba.

The BBC Radio 2 Twitter account fuelled speculation by posting “Cheeky Girls?” and a kiss mark emoji.

Later another message confirmed that Zoe Ball would be speaking to the mystery band during her breakfast show on Wednesday morning.
