Genesis Finally Built an M3 Fighter. But You Can't Buy It

After nearly eight years on sale, Genesis has finally built a G70 worthy of going head-to-head with the mighty BMW M3. Except, only one example exists. Meet the G70 Track Day Special concept.

As the name suggests, the Track Day Special concept is a G70 modified and upgraded for race track duty. It gets a KW coilover suspension, stiffer axle bearings, and 19-inch OZ Estrema GT wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. There are also hood vents, tow straps, and a gigantic wing mounted to the trunk.

Genesis says the Track Day Special was inspired by the company's G70 Nürburgring track taxi, a program launched last year that allows people to ride inside a modified G70 as it laps the Green Hell. This concept grabbed the suspension and tire mods from those taxi cars, as well as its inspiration for the orange-tinted livery.

The original G70 'Ring taxis use an unmodified twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 making 365 horsepower and 276 pound-feet of torque. Power gets to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic. Genesis doesn't mention any drivetrain details for the Track Special Concept, so it's safe to assume nothing under the hood has been tinkered with here.

While the G70 Track Day Special was inspired by the Nürburgring, it won't see that track any time soon. Debuting on Friday in Markham, a city just outside Toronto, Canada, Genesis plans to take the car on a tour of the country, stopping at Genesis distributors throughout the summer. So if you want to see it in person, keep an eye on your local dealer.

Genesis has a long history of releasing sporty concepts without any intention to build them. While the Track Day Special looks ready for production, we suspect it'll remain a one-off. That means any track comparison with an M3 will have to wait.
