Generous Dumbarton ice-cream man wants to donate a bike to someone in need

A big-hearted Brucehill ice-cream man is hoping to make someone’s Christmas by giving away a new bike.

Iain Brown, who runs the popular Iain’s Ices, will melt hearts with the generous gesture - but he has insisted that he doesn’t want hundreds and thousands of compliments.

Talented Alexandria boy wants to spread Christmas cheer through singing

He told the Lennox Herald : “It’s a great feeling to know that someone’s Christmas will be made by getting it.

“My mum and dad always made sure I had something - it wasn’t much - but you always appreciated whatever you got.

“When I look back to when I was a kid, my dad made me a wee bike with a wee wheel at the front and a big wheel at the back, we were a low income family so I know what it’s like at this time of year.

“I’m not bothered about getting out there that it’s Iain’s Ices or anything like that, I just want to help someone out.

“It’ll make my Christmas because we lost a wee part of my family in my partner’s Aunt Margaret this year, that makes it more difficult than it would’ve been - but giving away the bike will help make things a wee bit brighter.”

Running an ice-cream van isn’t just a business for Iain either, it has a far more personal meaning.

He added: “The van’s been running for 17 years. My mum passed away in 2002 and I’ve always been involved in ice cream vans since I was a child - before she passed away, she said to me to go and live my dream of having my own van.

“It’s getting harder and harder with all the supermarkets offering deals that we can’t compete with and I feel like there probably won’t be ice-cream vans in the future, but we’re still going and hopefully will be for years to come.”

Any families struggling with the cost of Christmas who think that their child’s day would be made by the BMX can contact Iain on 07793 449 825.
