General manager Chris Grier praised for draft weekend

NBC Sports’ Peter King has named Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier his ‘GM of the Draft’ during his latest column for Pro Football Talk. Considering some of the aggressive moves teams made to slide up and down the board and acquire coveted talent, it’s a bit of a surprise to see Grier — rightfully, by the way — get praise for how he handled the Dolphins’ draft week.

“… Grier, who, with two trades in a span of an hour Friday night, turned the 48th overall pick into Josh Rosen, a sixth-round pick and a second-round pick in 2020,” wrote King. “The Dolphins now have a year to see if the 10th pick in the 2018 draft, Rosen, can be the QB of the future. And if not, Grier will have five extra picks (as of now) in 2020 to find that franchise passer in a richer crop of prospects next April.”

That is the most impressive thing about the Rosen deal. Naysayers will suggest that Miami “wasted” a 2nd-round pick on Rosen but ultimately the team has the same number of picks in the 2nd-round — they just pushed one back a year. Add in Miami landing quintessential culture guy Christian Wilkins?

Fans of Miami should be impressed with the haul for Grier, just as Peter King is.
