UK general election vote LIVE: MPs approve Boris Johnson's bid to go to the polls on December 12

MPs have approved Boris Johnson's bid to hold a general election date to December 12.

438 MPs voted in favour of an election on December 12, while only 20 voted against it - a majority of 418.

Labour's amendment to go to the polls on December 9 was defeated 315 to 295.

This will be the third general election in four years.
