Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell today pledged £400bn in infrastructure spending in a bid to cause "an irreversible shift in the balance of power and wealth in favour of working people".
It came after Sajid Javid said the Conservatives will increase borrowing to pay for new infrastructure as he heralded new fiscal rules for a "new economic era".
In a speech in Manchester, the Chancellor announced plans to borrow "some more" to invest in hospital and railway projects as he made his first major intervention in the Tories' General Election campaign.
It came after Labour MP Ian Austin launched a stunning attack on Jeremy Corbyn, calling him "unfit" to run the country and urging voters to back Boris Johnson.
