General election forecast: What will the weather be like on voting day?

Voters taking to the polls for the general election will need to wrap up.

The weather on Thursday is set to be unsettled, blustery and very cold, according to the Met Office.

There's also a risk of rain showers in the North East and temperatures will struggle to stay above freezing.

Elsewhere in the UK, there could be a few flurries of snow on higher ground but in our region we are only expected to see frost.

Nicky Maxey from the Met Office told us what to expect:

Thursday

"Thursday is going to be a cold day, we're getting quite an unsettled week. There's some cold air coming into the north of the country but there will also be some sunny intervals around as well.

"It will be a crisp winter day for most and there's a risk of ice and frost overnight so there may be some icy pavements first thing in the morning.

"Temperatures will struggle to get above freezing, particularly in more exposed rural areas out of the city.

"For much of the country there's a risk of rain. It will be quite blustery day for many and it will feel very cold."

On Tuesday this week, there will be a in place with gusts of up to 70mph expected.
