General Election 2020: Taoiseach Leo Varadkar 'forced to cancel canvassing event in Dublin due to illness'

Leo Varadkar was forced to pull out of a general election canvassing event this morning due to a reported illness.

The Taoiseach was meant to take part in a walk around Santry's Omni Park Shopping Centre with Fine Gael TD Noel Rock, but had to cancel the event on short notice after becoming unwell.

A statement issued by the party said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 10.50am Walkabout at the Omni Park Shopping Centre has been cancelled."

He did attend the launch of Fine Gael's online safety proposals, but pushed back a Newstalk interview in the afternoon to 6pm.

A spokesperson for Mr Varadkar has been contacted for a comment.
