General Election 2020: Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross loses seat in Dublin Rathdown

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross has become the first high profile casualty of General Election 2020 after he lost his seat in the Dail.

The Independent TD was first elected to the Dail in 2011 before being appointed a Minister following the 2016 General Election.

But he will not be returning to Leinster House after he was eliminated on the fifth count in the Dublin Rathdown constituency.

Catherine Martin of the Green Party took the first seat following that count after she exceeded the quota of 10,601.

There are still four candidates in the hunt for the remaining two seats in the three-seater constituency.

Fine Gael Senator Neale Richmond is currently second in the running with 7,461 votes.

He is followed by party colleague and sitting TD Josepha Madigan on 6,964 votes.

Sorcha Nic Cormaic is next on 5,991, followed by Fianna Fail's Shay Brennan on 5,913
