General Election 2020: Fianna Fail beats Fine Gael as most supported party in Ireland, new poll reveals

Fianna Fail has beaten Fine Gael to become the most supported party in Ireland, a new poll has revealed.

Additionally there has been an increase in support for Sinn Fein, according to the latest Sunday Business Post/Red C survey.

Fianna Fail is now up two points to 26%, the Irish Mirror reports.

Micheal Martin's party has now topped all three major polls of the election campaign.

Fine Gael's support sank seven points to 23%.

Sinn Fein, meanwhile, were boosted by eight points and now stand at 19%, according to the poll.

The telephone poll of 1,000 voters was carried out between January 16 and January 22.

It is the first time Fianna Fail polled ahead of Fine Gael in Red C studies since April 2017 and represents the lowest marker for Fine Gael while Leo Varadkar has been leader.

In alarming news for Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy, just 12% of those surveyed trusted Fine Gael to manage the housing and rental crisis.

24% believed Fianna Fail are the best to do it, while 20% chose Sinn Fein.

And there is also bad news for Health Minister Simon Harris as just 14% said they trusted Fine Gael to manage healthcare effectively.

24% again believe in Fianna Fail on this, while 16% opted for Sinn Fein.
