Speculation is growing that Boris Johnson will call a general election for Monday 14 October - just weeks before the Brexit deadline on Halloween .
If the Prime Minister loses a vote that would force him to extend the Brexit deadline to 31 January next year, he has vowed to trigger a snap general election for next month.
If the election goes ahead, Parliament will be dissolved on Monday 9 September, giving MPs the required 25 working days to campaign for re-election.
Voters will have just a few weeks to ensure that they are registered to vote, and can participate in the election - the UK's third in five years.
When is the register to vote deadline?
For a Monday 14 October General Election, the deadline to register to vote is most likely to be midnight on Thursday 26 September - 12 working days before.
The deadline to register for a postal vote would be 5pm on Friday 27 September, while the deadline for registering for a non-emergency proxy vote would be Friday 4 October, also at 5pm.
If voters are hit by unforeseen circumstances, they have until 5pm on Polling Day to apply for an emergency proxy vote which enables someone to vote on their behalf.
