What time do polling stations close on December 12?

Millions of voters across the country will head to polling stations on December 12 for what is one of the most crucial General Elections in recent years.

Every political party has been battling hard for votes since Parliament was officially dissolved in November.

And now it is all down to the voters to decide who will be the ruling party at Westminster.

Who will your candidates be? With nominations now closed, you can find that information by out as well as the key stats and who won last time, simply by entering your postcode in the widget below.

But when do polling stations close on December 12?

Every polling station across the country is open from 7am to 10pm. If you are at the polling station by 10pm you should be allowed to vote, even if there is a queue.

You will have received your polling card through your door which details which polling station near you you have to visit. It could be a local school or community centre. If you have not received your card and know you are registered to vote you can look online on your local authorities website to find out.

All votes will be counted on the night and results roll in overnight and the winner, or whether it's a hung parliament, is usually known by about 5am. If it's a hung parliament expect bartering and horse-trading in an attempt to form a government.
