General Election 2019 result for Ynys Mon: Conservatives win Anglesey

The Conservatives have won Ynys Mon from Labour in one of the shock results of the night.

Anglesey has been represented by Labour's Albert Owen since 2001 but he stood down at this election and the Labour vote slumped - down by 12% of the vote.

Before Mr Owen, Ynys Mon was a Plaid Cymru seat held by Ieuan Wyn Jones from 1987.

In its long history, dating back to the 16th Century, the seat has changed hands many times being held by the Liberals for much of the later 19th Century before being taken by Labour in 1951 and then the Tories in 1979.

The constituency voted leave in the 2016 EU referendum by 50.94%, according to estimates from the Commons Library.

It's a seat where the so-called "alliance pact" between Plaid Cymru, Liberal Democrats and the Greens has come into play and Plaid Cymru alone were standing.
