General Election 2019: Newark constituency candidate list

Newark is one of the safer seats in Nottinghamshire, and it would take a monumental swing to take it away from the Conservatives.

Having been Conservative since 2001, it is currently held by Robert Jenrick, who sits in the cabinet as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

More than 60% of the constituency voted to Leave, and the Conservatives currently have a majority of 18,149.

This makes it the second-safest seat in the county, behind Nottingham East.

Since 1979, the Conservatives have won every election bar one, losing it briefly to Labour in 1997 then regaining it in 2001.

The area was also briefly represented by an independent MP, after Patrick Mercer resigned the party whip and a by-election was called, with the Conservatives winning that election.

Geographically, it's by far the largest constituency in the county, stretching from south of Nottingham to north of Worksop.
