UK election news LIVE: Boris Johnson defends response to UK floods as Labour broadband pledge sparks Tory criticism

Boris Johnson has defended his response to recent UK flooding after he was accused to showing a lack of concern for the victims.

Appearing on BBC Breakfast this morning, the PM said: "I have twice gone to visit the floods, once to Derbyshire and once to South Yorkshire and have seen for myself what's going on," before adding: "You can never do enough for someone who has suffered a disaster like flooding."

It came as the Tories attacked Labour over a £20 billion pledge to deliver a free British Broadband public service. Tory Secretary of State for Digital Culture, Media and Sport Nicky Morgan said Jeremy Corbyn "will promise anything" as she called proposals a “fantasy plan”.

Meanwhile John le Carre and Joanna Lumley joined 22 public figures in declaring their refusal to vote for the Labour Party because of its association with anti-Semitism.
