General election 2019 candidates: Who can I vote for in my constituency area?

The deadline for candidates wanting to stand as MPs has passed.

Thousands of people are standing in 650 constituencies across the country in next month's general election.

Here, the Standard explains how to find out who is voting in your area as well as other key details about the poll.

Who can I vote for?

Full lists have helpfully been complied on the Who Can I Vote For? website.

Where is Boris Johnson standing?

Uxbridge and South Ruislip, which first elected Mr Johnson in 2015 and did so again in 2017.

There had been speculation Mr Johnson, who had a majority of just 5,034 over Labour in 2017, would move to a “safer” seat. But he is staying put in the west London constituency.

The Prime Minister will face competition from 11 other candidates. They include Lord Buckethead of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party, independent Yace "Interplanetary Time Lord" Yogenstein and independent Count Binface.

What about Jeremy Corbyn?

Islington North, the very definition of a safe seat.

While Mr Corbyn is a controversial figure as leader of the Labour Party, he has been hugely popular as a local MP in the north London constituency.

It has elected him in nine elections since 1983. In 2017, he had a massive majority of 33,215.

Next month, he will be facing five rival candidates.

What is the deadline for registering to vote?

Midnight on November 26. If you aren’t registered and wish to vote, register here.

What day is the election?

December 12. Polling booths will be open between 7am and 10pm.

Your local council will send you information about your nearest polling station.

Remember, you are not voting for a Prime Minister, but to send a local MP to Parliament from which the government is constructed.

When will the results be announced?

It can take up to 24 hours for the results from all 650 constituencies to be declared.

But a decent picture of Parliament’s new make-up will start to become clear in the early hours of December 13.

And exit polls released once polling booths have closed at 10pm on December 12 will also give an important first indication.

When will Parliament return?

December 17, when MPs will choose whether to re-elect Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle.

His re-election is almost certain, as he was only elected for the first time earlier this month.

What then?

There will be a State Opening of Parliament with a Queen’s Speech on a date to be confirmed.

And then the Brexit fun will recommence.
