General Election 2019: Can I still vote if I forgot to register?

Did you register to vote?

The 2019 General Election takes place today, and will see the political future of the country determined as the British public heads to the polling stations to cast their vote for the political party of their choice.

Party leaders looking for success include Boris Johnson for the Conservative Party, Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour Party, and Jo Swinson for the Liberal Democrats.

But which party will emerge victorious?

And, most importantly, will you be able to vote if you haven't registered?

Here is what you need to know.

Can I still vote if I forgot to register?

Can you vote? (PA)

If you are not registered, then you will not be able to vote in the general election today.

However, if you were previously registered to vote at your current address, you may already be on the electoral register. If you're not sure, you can contact your local electoral registration office.

If you have received a polling card, that means that you are definitely registered to vote and you should go to your polling station.

If you have a postal vote that you forgot to send, you can hand it in at your local polling station before 10pm and it will still be counted.

If a medical emergency or an unforeseen work commitment means that you will not be able to attend the polling station to vote, you have until 5pm to apply for an emergency proxy vote.

Polls opened at 7am this morning, and will close at 10pm. As long as you're in the queue at the polling station by 10pm, you will be able to cast your vote.

The general election takes place today.
