Gemma Collins compares herself to Marilyn Monroe and says country needs her during lockdown

Gemma Collins believes the country needs her during the coronavirus lockdown.

The TOWIE star, 39, compared herself to Marilyn Monroe when she performed for US troops in Korea.

Speaking during a Q&A with her fans before her new TV show Diva On Lockdown aired last night, GC revealed her intention to keep the nation "entertained" during this difficult time.

She said: "Like Marilyn Monroe was sent out to entertain the troops in the war times, I realised that the country may need the GC for entertainment and that's what I want to give with this series.

"I'm a reality queen and I want people to see the realness."

Gem has been filming her new ITVBe reality TV show but admits it's been odd to make a programme during the lockdown.

She added: "Basically it's very strange, I'm not gonna lie, it's bizarre.

"In TV you normally have loads of people around you to bounce off and have a laugh with.

"We'd planned the whole series and were meant to be going here, there and everywhere, but we just haven't been able to do it.

"But as I always do, I wanted to make the best of every situation and I do believe we've been able to make a fantastic series."

Gemma continued: "But I'm not gonna lie, putting the fixed cameras in my home was like being back on Big Brother again, but without a bunch of annoying people around me."

Diva on Lockdown began last night and Gemma was back to her GC best.

She moaned about having to wait for her coffee, despite many stores having less staff.

*Diva on Lockdown continues next Sunday at 9pm on ITVBe.
