Gemma Atkinson pokes fun at Gorka over his performance on this weekend's Strictly

The Strictly Come Dancing pro dancers gave a haunting performance during Sunday night's results show.

The professionals wowed viewers with their spellbinding routine as Gorka Marquez took centre stage as a 'prince of darkness' wearing a crown during Halloween Week on the BBc dance show.

After the dance his fiance Gemma Atkinson poked fun on her Instagram as she shared a clip from the capivating performance, showing her man commandingly descending a staircase.

She joked with a crying laughing-face emoji: "That's how he comes downstairs for brekkie."

Hits Radio host Gemma, who has a two-year-old daughter Mia with her man, met Gorka on the show back in 2017 when she was a contestant dancing with Aljaž Škorjanec.

Gorka's fellow pro dancer Oti Mabuse also had some fun sharing the dance on social media, saying: "What Strictly parties are like when Gorka is the DJ."

And Gorka wrote with laughing emojis: "Walking in to the week like...I think I enjoyed playing this roll a bit to much!!

The professionals danced to Ludwig van Beethoven's Ode to Joy, the official anthem of the European Union.

And fans of the BBC dance show hit out over the opening number.

Some viewers at home didn't agree with the choice after Brexit - the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union on January 31, 2020.

Ode to Joy from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, completed in 1824, was adopted as the 'Anthem of Europe' by the Council of Europe in 1972 and subsequently by the European Union in 1985.

The Anthem of Europe is played at official occasions such as political or civil events and is used by the EU to represent the union and its people.

One viewer tweeted about the performance: "Surprised at opening music - wasn't it based on Ode to Joy, the EU anthem. Or was it subtle - dark forces surrounding the innocent?"

"They're dancing to the EU theme tune. This is almost as bad as that Ashley Banjo thing. I'm complaining to Ofcom," remarked another.

But others defended the choice of music with one saying: "It's only a piece of music. Beethoven wrote it before the EU was ever conceived."

Others heaped praise on the routine, focusing on the 'fantastic characterisation.'

One described it as "a spooky 'Ode to Joy' routine."
