Gemma Atkinson makes shock Hits Radio Breakfast show announcement

Gemma Atkinson has announced that she is leaving her radio show - less than a year after her first Hits Radio Breakfast Show broadcast.

Co-hosts Gethin Jones and Dave Vitty are also stepping down after taking over the re branded station, formerly Key 103, last June.

Former Emmerdale actress Gemma, who is currently expecting her first child, took to Instagram to reveal that she has just over a week left on the radio programme as she heads off on maternity leave and when she's back, it'll be all change.

Alongside a picture of herself in the studio, she said: "It's almost time for me to finish work for my maternity leave and take on my new role as being a mum!

"I'll be hanging up my headphones on Friday 7th June, but not for too long as I'll be returning to @hitsradiouk on a brand new drivetime show with the wonderful @wesbutters.

"I figured being woken up by a baby throughout the night will leave me in no fit state to wake you guys up at breakfast. So instead, I’ll be getting you all home from work weekdays with Wes 4pm - 7pm."

Gemma, 34, continued: "Very much looking forward to our new show with lots of fun stuff to chat to you all about! In the meantime, it's mum time. (Wish me luck on nappy duty and sleepless nights) ."

The three-piece will present their last show on Friday, June 7 with details of a new breakfast show to be announced in due course.

Welsh presenter Gethin has also hit Instagram with a post about his impending departure - using a snap from the show which says he's "going on Love Island".

He captioned the post: "To confirm, this is not the reason I’m leaving @hitsradiouk!. It's been a heck of 12 months.. Your involvement makes ever day unique, thank you for listening.

"I leave June 7, my decision, all good... (I'm also the only person not running for PM)."

Programme director Paul Gerrard said: "Gethin, Gemma and Dave drove the Hits Radio Breakfast show with passion, enthusiasm and heaps of fun.

"All incredibly talented broadcasters, we wish both Gethin and Dave all the best with their upcoming projects and Gemma with her impending arrival!"
