Gemma Atkinson has posted an emotional tribute to her late father, revealing she was “sobbing” over thinking that he will never meet his grandchild.
The actress, who is currently pregnant with her first child, told fans that it had “dawned on her” that her unborn child wouldn’t be able to have a relationship with her dad, who died when she was 17.
“It dawned on me today the wonderful relationship I had with my grandparents when I was growing up, and then it hit me my dad won’t get to meet his Grandchild,” Atkinson wrote.
“Seems crazy... I blame the pregnancy hormones but today has been a b***** rollercoaster. Fits of laughter to sobbing. Thankfully, I had cookies.”
Alongside the heartfelt caption, Atkinson shared a quote reading: “My dad taught me everything, except how to live without him.”
Fans rushed to comfort Atkinson, 34, by sharing similar stories of giving birth after the loss of a parent and showering the pregnant star with support.
Earlier this year, Atkinson climbed to the top of Mount Teide with boyfriend Gorka Marquez as a poignant tribute to her dad.
Sharing a photo of her on top of the Spanish volcano, she wrote: “I haven’t been here since my dad passed away.
“We used to come every year and do the hike so it was bitter sweet, but I know he somehow helped drag me up there.”
Atkinson and Marquez – who met on Strictly in 2017 – announced they were expecting their first child earlier this year.
The loved-up pair used their pet dogs Norman and Ollie to make the special reveal, with the pooches brandishing “big brother” signs to share the news.
The actress and Marquez, 28, have kept fans up-to-date with all things pregnancy since going public with their news as they prepare for the new arrival.
