Gemma Atkinson delivers savage response to 'jealousy' question about Gorka on Strictly

Gemma Atkinson certainly isn't worried about the infamous Strictly curse this year.

The radio presenter, 37, has revealed who she thinks her fiancé Gorka Marquez could be a good partner for on the 20th series of the BBC show, and made it very clear the professional dancer won't be leaving her for any of the celebrity contestants.

Speaking alongside her Hits Radio colleague Fleur East - who will be taking to the dancefloor later this year - mum-of-one Gemma also recalled her own Strictly stint to her co-host Mike Toolan.

The former Hollyoaks actress and Gorka first met in 2017 when 37-year-old Gemma was a contestant competing for the coveted Glitterball trophy - although the pair didn't actually take to the dance floor together.

The loved-up couple are now parents to three-year-old Mia together and are currently planning their wedding, after Gorka popped the question on Valentine's Day last year.

On their weekday radio show, Gemma, Mike and Fleur discussed the possibility the former X Factor star may be teamed up with her co-worker's beau when Strictly kicks off - saying it would be great to "keep it in the family".

"It would be nice," Fleur admitted, before turning to Gemma and adding: "But selfishly not great for you because you want him [Gorka] in Manchester ALL the time."

"Well, not all the time..."Gemma quipped - causing her co-host Mike to burst into laughter.

"Two days a week max," Gemma continued, before revealing she has been chatting to her future husband about possible partnerships between the dancers and the celebrity contestants on the show.

"I was talking to Gorka this morning and he said: 'How tall is she [Fleur]?' and I said, 'I think she's around 5ft4/5ft 5 and he said, 'Okay, it's either me, Nikita or Neil [Jones]," the former Strictly contestant divulged.

Looking back on her own time on the show, Gemma revealed she "asked for small heels because I was a nightmare" when she took to the dancefloor with Aljaž Škorjanec, and admitted she often gets bored of the show's iconic theme tune.

Gemma tipped her beau to be partnered up with former Corrie star Kym Marsh, due to the fact the fellow actress is based in Manchester and it would be "lovely because he'd [Gorka] get to come home in between rehearsals."

"That's all I really care about. I'm not bothered who he gets per say, I just go off location. Whoever he's announced with I go, 'Right, where are they based?' because then I can work out whether he can come home a few nights fot eh week, help with Mia," the radio star explained.

"As a partner of a Strictly dancer, do you ever get jealous of who he gets?" Mike then asked his co-host, to which she ironically replied: "No! Who's he going to leave me for?"

Laughing, Gemma added: "I'm joking! I didn't mean that."

The radio star and her future husband have previously addressed the so-called Strictly curse before, when Gorka was competing on last year's series alongside former Corrie actress Katie McGlynn.

"I never want Gorka’s partners to feel they have to hold back because of me," Gemma admitted on Steph's Packed Lunch.

"In the same respect that if I did an acting job and had to kiss someone, I wouldn’t want him piping up. I’m always encouraging. You’ve been lucky, you’ve had ace partners.”

Spanish dancer Gorka also chimed in when answering the question from the audience, saying: "For me, I know there are a lot of rumours about the Strictly curse, but I can guarantee you that for all of us it is a job and we know we have to get into character.

"It is just a job and we love our job."
