Gemma Arterton shines in exclusive trailer for marital drama The Escape

Depression so often comes with its own sense of guilt.

It's this suffocating mix of emotions that haunt Tara (Gemma Arterton) in Dominic Savage's new The Escape, which first premiered that Toronto International Film Festival last year and now gears up for its UK cinematic release.

Those around her fail to see how she could possibly be unhappy: she has two children she loves, the conveniences of middle-class life, and - as her mother exclaims: "You've got a conservatory!"

Tara's consuming sense of depression digs only deeper in that sense of isolation, alienation, and guilt; exacerbated by her husband (Dominic Cooper)'s total lack of perception.

And then, a breaking point is reached, as Tara flees her family to seek out the lights of Paris. She embarks on a quest to track down "The Lady and the Unicorn", the tapestry which now hangs in the city's Museum of the Middle Ages.

The film, which Variety's Guy Lodge named it an "intelligent, empathetic character study", also stars Frances Barber, Marthe Keller, Jalil Lespert. You can check out the UK poster for the film below.
