Gemma Arterton stars in Walden
(Picture: Getty Images for BFI)A West End play is re-opening after a performance was cancelled when a member of the backstage team was notified by Test and Trace they came into contact with someone with Covid-19.
Walden, starring Gemma Arterton, was forced to turn the audience away from the show at the Harold Pinter Theatre on Tuesday night but a spokeswoman for the show said it would re-open after everyone tested negative for the virus.
The play, from debut writer Amy Berryman, had its opening night last week and was on a limited three-week run.
A statement from Sonia Friedman productions, which run the show, said thanked audiences for being “understanding” about the last minute closure.
It said they would “continue to adhere to all Covid protocols” and that the “health and safety of our company and audiences remain our priority”.
Walden, directed by Ian Rickson, tells the story of Cassie (Lydia Wilson), a NASA botanist, who finds herself in a remote cabin in the woods, where her estranged twin sister, Stella, played by Gemma Arterton, has found a new life with climate activist Bryan (Fehinti Balogun).
A synopsis says: “Old wounds resurface as the sisters attempt to pick up the pieces of the rivalry that broke them apart.”
Tickets are still available to purchase for Wednesday’s show.
