Bob Geldof, the singer who organised celebrity concerts such as Live Aid and Live 8, has attacked the media for its focus on personalities rather than problems. He told Reuters: "It's a function of the globalised media, and it's a function of this culture of 'celebritisation'." Geldof also criticised journalists for being "shallow", using as an example the media's concentration on Kylie Minogue having cancer rather than giving time and space to a doctor who might have interesting things to say about the disease.
