Geelong College refers allegations against Robert Doyle to police

The former Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Robert Doyle, has been accused of "questionable behaviour" by two students at Geelong College.

The allegations relate to his time as a teacher at the college, where he taught from 1978 to 1982.

In a statement, Geelong College said it was contacted by two former students, and had passed that information onto police.

"Two former students contacted the Geelong College through our independent facilitator, informing us of their personal experiences of questionable behaviour by Robert Doyle while he was a teacher at the school," the college said in a statement.

The ABC is not suggesting the allegations are true, only that they have been made.

Geelong College said it provided information to Victoria Police's SANO taskforce, set up to investigate historic abuse, in December 2015.

It said it did not intend to conduct its own investigation.

"Geelong College's key concern is about the wellbeing of current and former students and we will continue to support and care for the students that came forward," the statement said.

Victoria Police said it had no record of the report, but was looking into the matter.

Mr Doyle's representatives said they knew nothing about the Geelong College allegations.

"We are completely unaware of this matter and have received no information about it. Our client remains in hospital," said Nick Ruskin, Mr Doyle's lawyer.

Mr Doyle resigned his position after he was accused of sexually harassing councilor Cathy Oke and former councillor Tessa Sullivan.

An investigation into the allegations has been delayed by Mr Doyle's ill health.

A separate investigation is also looking into allegations of harassment in his position as chairman of the board at Melbourne Health.

Mr Doyle has strenuously denied all previous allegations.
